Old Time Soap Recipie

This is posted for your education and enjoyment and not for actual use. This dates from the 1800s and would not be used today.

Mom's Mother's Soap

Dissolve 1 can lye in 1 quart of luke warm rain water. Cool. Melt 5 pounds of fat and pour lye water into it and mix. Then add 1/4 c Ammonia, 1/2 c gasoline, 1/2 c bleach, 3 T borax, 1 T honey, 1 t canning salt. Dissolve and pour into above mixture.

DO NOT PUT BACK ON THE STOVE!

Stir 15 to 20-minutes. Let stand 24 hours. Cut into bars. Bars should cure 2 weeks before using. Best to use glass pans not metal. Glass will make white soap, if you use metal be sure it is cast iron.

Dated: 1896

With those ingredients you probably would not have any skin left to clean!! LOL.....
